Law & Order: Special Victims Unit was renewed for a 19th season on May 12, 2017. [1] Chernuchin took over as showrunner after Eid left SVU to become showrunner of the fifth season of Chicago P.D. [2] Production of the season began on July 20, 2017. [3] On January 9, 2018, NBC ordered two additional episodes for season 19, as confirmed in a tweet from Robert Brooks Cohen, rounding up the number of episodes to 24. [4] Wednesday`s episode will also be important for Fin (Ice-T), who will finally receive his sergeant orders. After postponing it for years, he is taking a big step in his career and it could mean big changes for the CSR family. On December 14, 2017, Martin Donovan and Yasmine Al Massri were confirmed as guest stars in an episode titled „Flight Risk,“ based on allegations of sexual abuse by Harvey Weinstein. [26] The episode focused on sexual assault in the aviation industry and aired on January 17, 2018. The detectives decide to first investigate the address where she broke in, under the impression that she must have lived there at some point in her life. They find one of the previous tenants and ask her about the lady. She recognizes the woman and claims she was her neighbor when they were children, and informs the detectives that her name is Bess Sherman; She also insists that they suspected Bess was abused by her uncle at the time.
Dr. Huang suggests that the recent attack likely triggered memories of the abuse she suffered as a child, so she fled to the only place she felt safe. Her friend`s house. Chernuchin told THR that another episode would be based on the case of Charlie Gard, an infant in England born with a rare genetic disorder that causes progressive brain damage and muscle failure. „It`s a life and death story,“ Chernuchin said. Other episodes were titled „SVU`s answer to 13 Reasons Why – and a plane episode about „all the turbulence on planes these days.“ Chernukhin concluded: „We are pulling things out of the headlines. Some of them are famous headlines and others are smaller titles. [5] Detectives investigate an elderly woman who was abused. In a preview of tonight`s tense episode, she has to help an elderly victim (guest star Fionnula Flanagan) with Alzheimer`s disease who has a little trouble choosing the man who attacked her. As the suspect`s lawyer points out, Benson faces an uphill battle with this sensitive case.
An elderly woman with Alzheimer`s breaks into an apartment she remembers from her past, leading investigators to the fact that she was once abused in a nursing home before being placed in the care of her money-hungry son. An episode based on Harvey Weinstein`s sexual abuse allegations aired on January 17, 2018. [8] „We`re hitting Harvey Weinstein head-on, but it`s not in the entertainment industry,“ Chernuchin said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. „This is a very important episode about rape culture in an industry, and we wanted to try to expand the law to criminalize that kind of environment.“ When an elderly woman breaks into an apartment, detectives discover that she has been abused, but must investigate Alzheimer`s disease without any credible information from the victim. They discover that she has been released from a nursing home to entrust the care of her financially intriguing son, who becomes the prime suspect. However, they return to the nursing home to find a few suspects, including the director, who describes the dangers patients and staff face, with their own precariously exceptional exploits. Benson`s comment about women in these nursing homes was WAAAAY off the ground and inappropriate. Maddie has been well looked after and Stone`s sister also seems to be in a great facility. Patrice may not have been in a high-end nursing home, but at least they knew how to contact CSR when Patrice reported the rape. There`s always an element of trust in places like these and there`s always the possibility of something bad happening even in expensive places, but I think the majority of these places are taking care. Someone should tell Benson that seniors sometimes don`t get the best care at home.
Benson and his comment about the „expiration date“ were ridiculous. She is distraught. People are getting older. Women AND men. People cannot always be cared for at home. I also don`t see a problem with people who love music or even painting. These things can be soothing, especially music. Music can be very comforting for someone who has memory problems, as it can often bring back happy memories. I thought this episode was very good. I was also surprised when Joe Piscopo`s character came and went so fast that I thought maybe he was the culprit. CSR has improved over the course of the season and this gives me hope that next season will be great.
Good for Fin, he played Dodds and got the job he wanted. The Special Victim Support Unit is called in to investigate a sexual assault case involving two disabled children (Conor Tague and Erin Wilhelmi) attending a special school. Rollins discovers a shocking truth when one of the students` medical examinations reveals that the child`s medical disability comes from a surprising source and that the case quickly becomes child abuse by his mother (Dendrie Taylor). The case quickly escalates when the abuse turns into murder. Meanwhile, Benson tries to help Noah cope with the nightmares after previous traumatic events involving himself, Benson, and Sheila Porter. Olivia and Elliot talk to Hope Garrett, the director of the nursing home, about the lawsuit, and she says they settled it out of court because it was easier. She adds that many grieving families have to blame someone for their parent`s death, so they complain, but there hasn`t been a bad game on their part.
